Entrance to Grangemouth docks is through an entrance lock which operates 24 hours / 7 days except on 1st January. Lock dimensions are 237.60 x 31.00 metres, (29.00 metres between fenders).
Tankers: 187.00 metres loa x 27.40 metres beam x 11.00 metres draft.
Dry cargo: 187.00 metres loa x 27 40 metres beam x 7.70 metres draft.
Water density 1020.
Grangemouth approach channel from Hen & Chicken Buoy to entrance lock is maintained at a dredged depth of 6.00 metres below Admiralty chart datum.
Prevailing wind is SW. Manoeuvring at the lock entrance can be difficult during heavy weather or if wind shifts Easterly.
Pilotage is compulsory. The distance from Pilot Boarding Position,(North of no. 3. Fairway Buoy) to Grangemouth Lock is approx. 21 miles.
Owned and operated by Svitzer Marine Ltd. 2 Voith Schneider tractor tugs. Bollard pull: 1 x 37 tonnes and 1 x 25 tonnes.
Tugs use ship’s lines, vessels are met at Hen and Chicken buoy.
Principal berths are in the Grange Dock: The North Wall mainly used for forest products and pipe cargoes is served by 7 x 6 tonne general cargo cranes. The Tongue berths served by 2 x 10 tonne and 3 x 6 tonne general cranes. The East Wall served by 4 x 10 tonne grabbing/general cranes and 1 x 35 tonne Scotch Derrick. The South Wall served by 3 x 32 tonne container gantry cranes. There is a fixed ro/ro ramp strengthened for indivisible loads of up to 1000 tonnes.
Mondays to Thursdays 0800 – 1700. Fridays 0800 – 1600. Meal break 1200 – 1300.
Overtime is available in the evenings, on nightshifts and at weekends.
Customs / Immigration services are available at Edinburgh airport, about 20 miles distant.
Bunkers - can be supplied using road cars. Shipchandler, laundry, deck/engine repairs, nav aid repairs all available.
